New Hotel Approved in the Rockside Business District
The City of Independence recently granted approval for the construction of a $15 million SpringHill Suites by Marriott hotel on Rockside Place. The new four-story, 121 room hotel will be constructed on the Holiday Inn overflow parking lot just north of the Bonefish Grill and Outback Steakhouse restaurants. The all-suites property will have a pool, lounge, business center and outside seating area with a fire pit. This will be the thirteenth hotel in Independence and increase the number of rooms in the City to 1,998.
As part of the hotel project, the City and developer have agreed to make streetscape improvements along Rockside Place. The streetscape project includes the installation of new sidewalks, street trees, pedestrian lighting, brick paver crosswalks, screening walls and other landscape upgrades throughout the area. With two hotels and two restaurants along Rockside Place, both the City and the developer recognize the benefits of enhancing the streetscape to improve pedestrian safety.
Site work for the hotel is currently underway, with construction expected to begin in April 2015. The hotel plans to be complete and operational by the 2016 Republican National Convention.
